Tears of fire in a house rented by the students of Marist College in New York, killing 3 people


Officials said the fire broke out in a private home rented for the Marist College students near the campus early Saturday, killing three people.

Been identified victims and two students in Marist in the past 20 and a boy, who was a student at the school. Not published their names. Survived four other people in the house without serious injuries.

Marist College basketball games postponed two "out of respect for students affected by this tragedy," said Deborah DiCaprio, Marist Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs, said in a statement Saturday.

The city's police chief said Thomas Morrow, has been renting a house off-campus street in Fairview six students from Marist.

Said Chris Maeder, Fairview commander of the fire, one of the few agencies that responded to the first firefighters to respond to an emergency call tried to enter the house, but was forced back from the heat and flames, call for emergency situations.

One of the victims on the second floor of the house, and one was down and was third in the "collapsed ruins of a large," said chief of police. The four survivors were transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. He said he believed that Maeder fire started in the back of the first floor.
